March 29, 2008 - Install Prop Governor

This is the Prop Governor control cable bracket.  I ordered it from Vans -- it's the one for the MT Governor but is supposed to work with the PCU5000 prop governor I bought from American Propeller on a group buy.

The first step was to screw the four mounting studs into the back of the engine.  The studs and nuts came with the Mattituck TMX-360 engine.

The nuts go on the stud end where you can turn them with your fingers.  The other stud end goes into the engine and emphatically does not go in easy.  You can screw them in with the 1/2" wrench by using the "double-nut" technique.  It took some effort getting them in -- I guarantee they won't be vibrating out!

I trial-fit the governor and realized right away that the control arm needed to be adjusted to align with the control cable.  It's possible to adjust the control arm without taking the back off but I took the back off anyway and took a look inside.  Like most things on the engine, it's surprisingly simple mechanically.

Now the control arm is in the correct position.  I didn't mess with the stop nuts that control the range of the arm.  That is set at the factory.

I installed the prop gov on the engine for good.  You can also see the control cable bracket.  It is held on by the lower two prop gov bolts.

I finally got around to installing the cotter pins on the engine mount and engine bolts.  Want those on for sure, for sure.
